Deep Tango – A San Francisco Seventies Sex Comedy (HD)

Most vintage titles lean on one idea and stretch it thin, but Deep Tango keeps several stories running at once, and that’s what makes it fun to sit through. John, a young guy fresh in a San Francisco apartment, has his hands full with a pretentious hippie girlfriend before he even finishes unpacking. Then the daffy nurse next door, Mona, wanders into his life and things get more tangled. Elsewhere in the city, a doctor is busy running sexual experiments on his own nurse, which gives the film a slightly clinical, tongue-in-cheek streak that you don’t often see. It’s a plot-driven feature from the ’70s, the kind where the apartment-hunting and the bad relationships actually matter, and the group scenes and orgy sequences grow out of those setups instead of just interrupting them. The cast is a strong one for the era: Annette Haven, Brittany York, Keith Henderson, Mona Watson, Roxanne Brewer and Sharon Kelly all appear, and the whole thing carries the loose, slightly goofy energy of a period when adult cinema still wanted to tell stories. Released through Peekarama and directed by Richard Kanter and Zachary Youngblood, it’s a good pick if you like your classics with humor and a bit of San Francisco atmosphere. Worth a look for the cast alone.
